Fun Kids Cakes For Spring
Spring is just about here and there are so many cute ideas for springtime kids cakes. Cakes with flowers are an obvious and easy way to go. But you can also get creative by making cakes in different shapes like a purse cake, or a teapot cake, or a ladybug cake. For boys, think sailboats or soccer. Carry your cake theme through in your party invitations, party supplies and party favors. Happy baking!

Monsters vs Aliens Cake
I love the newest party theme out there - Monsters vs Aliens! It's very cute and lends itself to all kinds of fun ideas for Monsters vs Aliens cakes. I like the idea of a sheet cake decorated like the San Francisco bay with the Golden Gate bridge in the background and a fun Monsters vs Aliens cake topper (I just found one over at Amazon.com). Have you been asked to make one of these cakes yet? If not, then that request is probably just around the corner so start thinking now :)

My 1st Professional Cake Class
I am very excited to have just signed up for my first professional cake class. I'll be taking a class specifically to learn to make gumpaste roses and leaves. After years of teaching myself to decorate cakes, I will at last get some instruction from professionals. I found a place in San Francisco that is an operating bakery making specialty and wedding cakes but they also teach classes in an open loft space downtown. They cater to novices as well as more experienced decorators and offer a variety of different classes. I'm heading there next month and will post with an update and review once I've finished the class.
