February seems to be the month of Crab Feeds here in California and my sons' school is no exception. In fact, our Crab Feed fundraiser is tonight. So I volunteered to make a cake shaped like a crab for the event. And here he is!
I used my favorite red velvet cake recipe for this little guy. I baked his body using a rectangular cake pan and then carved the cake into an oval shape and I used two small round cake pans for his claws and just cut out notches before covering them in fondant. His legs, eyes and mouth are all made from fondant.
This cake was actually really easy to make and is such fun. He is, of course, perfect for a Crab Feed but would also be great for an underwater, ocean or beach themed birthday party. You could even cover your cake board in light brown sugar or crushed graham crackers so it looks like your crab is sitting on a bed of sand.
Don't be afraid to give this one a try!
