Malted Milk Ball Cupcakes

It's that time again - yes, it's recipe time and this one is sure to be a huge hit with both kids and adults alike. After all, who doesn't like malted milk balls!

Ingredients
1 box of yellow cake mix
4 tablespoons of Ovaltine malt powder
2 cups of malted milk balls, such as Whoppers, finely chopped
24 whole malted milk balls

Directions
Make the yellow cake mix up according to the directions on the box. Then thoroughly stir in the malt powder and 1 cup of the chopped malted milk balls. Put into your cupcake liners and bake according to the directions on the cake box until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Beat the remaining chopped malted milk balls into your chosen frosting (a vanilla buttercream will work well here). Once cool, frost your cupcakes and then top each one with a whole malted milk ball.

Can you say yummy!

Dancing Crab Cake

February seems to be the month of Crab Feeds here in California and my sons' school is no exception. In fact, our Crab Feed fundraiser is tonight. So I volunteered to make a cake shaped like a crab for the event. And here he is!

I used my favorite red velvet cake recipe for this little guy. I baked his body using a rectangular cake pan and then carved the cake into an oval shape and I used two small round cake pans for his claws and just cut out notches before covering them in fondant. His legs, eyes and mouth are all made from fondant.

This cake was actually really easy to make and is such fun. He is, of course, perfect for a Crab Feed but would also be great for an underwater, ocean or beach themed birthday party. You could even cover your cake board in light brown sugar or crushed graham crackers so it looks like your crab is sitting on a bed of sand.

Don't be afraid to give this one a try!
