Cupcakes You Can Wear!

Now that I have my own store on Etsy, I find myself spending much more time browsing the other wonderful handmade items there. And of course, being that I love cakes and cupcakes, I tend to be drawn to items featuring my favorite treats.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Love this personalized, bottle cap necklace from Crafty Addictions.

Or how about this lovely cupcake ring from Bonnin Designs.

Look stylish in your kitchen with this adorable cupcake apron by Dianne Designer Aprons.

And finally, dress up your little girl's hair with this cute-as-can-be bow from Gals With Girls.

With so many great choices, I may be spending all my time (and my allowance) on Etsy this year :)

Easter Cupcake Toppers - Order Yours Now!

It's hard to believe that Easter is only 2 weeks away. If you're planning an Easter party or family gathering and are looking for fun food ideas then look no further :)  My Etsy store currently has really cute Easter egg and Easter bunny fondant toppers that can be used to decorate large cakes, cupcakes or even cookies.

Here are some fun ways to use these toppers:
  1. Bake a round or square cake and cover it in fondant or buttercream in a soft pastel color. The take some of my toppers and attach them to the sides of the cake. It would be fun to alternate the eggs and bunnies. Then use the top of the cake to write your Happy Easter message.
  2. Bake some cupcakes (strawberry or lemon would be fun since they have a neat pastel color). Then use some green frosting and a grass icing tip (Wilton #233) to pipe a mini lawn on the top of each cupcake. Then add the fondant toppers as the final decoration.
  3. Bake some sugar cookies and then frost them with a royal or decorator icing. Add the fondant toppers and let dry.
Have fun preparing for this beautiful holiday!

An Apple A Day!

Sometimes the best ideas come from my customers and I LOVE that! I was contacted recently by someone looking for fondant cupcake toppers for a bridal shower and she wanted some green apples. I created the above and sent her a photo - she loved them :) I now have these for sale in my Etsy store.

Just when I think I may be running low on creative ideas someone comes to the rescue. So, if you ever have items that you'd like to see in my shop just let me know.

A New Look For Cakes And Kids

I'm so excited by the new look I now have for Cakes And Kids. I found a wonderful designer on Etsy with a shop called Dreamlike Magic Designs and she just wowed me with a lovely design for my Etsy shop at an incredibly reasonable price. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for some unique graphic design work.

I was able to then use the same designs she created to update my Twitter, Facebook and now my blog. All I have left to do is update my website. Would love to hear what you think of the new look so leave me a comment with your thoughts!

How To Train Your Dragon Birthday Cakes

How To Train Your Dragon Deluxe Party Pack & 8 Favor Boxes

If you're like me and have a young boy in your family then he is probably more than a little excited about the new movie "How To Train Your Dragon". And it's also no surprise that with the introduction of the movie comes the introduction of themed party supplies.

But what do you do about the cake? A dragon cake might be a little more ambitious for those of us just starting out in the cake decorating world. So I thought I'd propose a couple of alternatives that will still delight your young man and keep you sane :)

Firstly, you could consider a viking helmet cake. Use a sports ball pan and simply cut it in half to make a round dome shaped cake. Frost it in gray or cover it in gray fondant. Perhaps sprinkle on some silver pearl dust to make it shine. Then make two horns out of fondant or gumpaste and let them dry and harden. Then you can stick them into the cake using some wooden dowel rods. Easy but very effective!

An even easier idea would be to make a cake like a sword. Simply bake two rectangular cakes and lay them end to end to make one long cake. Then use a template to cut out a sword shape. Frost it and perhaps add some colorful candies to look like jewels around the handle.

Happy dragon training!
